Have the gentle, easy birth, that you and your baby desire
HypnoBirthing®, also known as the Mongan Method, is a childbirth education method that empowers women to achieve more gentle, natural births. It is both a philosophy and a set of tools that uses self-hypnosis techniques and scripts to achieve a focused awareness and level of relaxation that will allow for a much more comfortable, easy birth.
“There’s a calmness and not as much fuss,” Marie Mongan, the founder of HypnoBirthing® said. “That’s the way babies are meant to come into the world.”
Celebrity Births – Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton used HypnoBirthing® as the birth plan to give birth to the royal baby at St Mary’s Hospital in London. She used Hypnotherapy for morning sickness in the past when she was in the hospital.
A source told UK’s Grazia Magazine, “Some of her friends have used this method and swear by it. Kate wants to do it her way and be relaxed.”
Hypnosis has long been used to ease the pain of childbirth; and clinical research shows that it decreases the need for chemical anesthetics and has benefits for the baby.
The Science Behind Using Hypnotherapy for Birth
Hypnosis has been used during childhood for approximately 100 years. Studies on using hypnosis for birthing show that hypnosis reduces the need for medical intervention during labor, and also reduces the risk to women and newborn babies. Another study showed that hypnosis has a psychological benefit to mothers and newborns.
A meta-analysis of hypnosis for birthing studies, comprising a total of 8395 women, found that much fewer women would need to use analgesia during their birth, opting for hypnosis instead. Women who used hypnosis reported less discomfort than a control group.
